Research Presentation: Update on BOEM-Funded Worst Case Discharge (WCD) Research
Event
Date(s)May 28, 2019(8:30 - 17:30)
Venue:BOEM Regional Office
Louisiana State University (LSU) and Oklahoma University (OU) will be presenting research on Worst Case Discharge (WCD) Determination projects funded by BOEM.

Projects funded by BOEM to increase the public knowledge-base on WCD Determination include research on the following topics:
  • WCD Literature Review – a critical review of existing theoretical understanding and experimental work relevant to the estimation of WCD volumes.

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modeling Report – a study and a review of two-phase fluid flow modeling in pipe and well annuli.

  • Experimental WCD Report – experimental studies in vertical pipe and annuli including measurements and analysis of results and interpretations.

  • WCD Model Report – provides details of a model developed at LSU that can determine pressure gradient in all flow regimes considering the concept of small and large diameter pipes.

  • Experimental vs. Existing WCD Model Report – evaluates the performance of models commonly used in WCD calculations against experimental data.

These research publications from LSU and OU may be found on the BOEM website using this link https://www.boem.gov/Worst-Case-Discharge-Determination/.
